What Is a Kinship Caregiver with Lucas County Children Services (LCCS)?

A Kinship Caregiver is a relative, close family friend, or trusted adult who steps in to care for a child when their parents cannot. At LCCS, these caregivers offer children safe, stable, and loving homes—often within their own family networks—helping maintain vital family connections and cultural identity during times of crisis.

Kinship Caregiver Placements at LCCS

  • 50–60% of children needing out-of-home care are placed with kinship caregivers.
  • This is well above the state average, making LCCS one of Ohio’s top agencies for kinship placements.

Leading the Way in Ohio

  • Recognized statewide for leadership in kinship placements
  • Higher satisfaction and retention rates than other counties
  •  Fewer disruptions thanks to familiar environments and trusted caregivers
