The nonprofit Isaiah 117 House organization took possession of its new home in Oregon on November 24 a short five months after construction began. Moline Builders presented the keys to Jennifer Bohnsack, location lead for Isaiah 117 House Lucas County, and former LCCS foster parent.
According to Jennifer, Moline Builders worked with contractors, suppliers, and manufacturers to get over 90 percent of the construction project donated. The home is completed and move-in ready just 18 months after LCCS first heard of the concept. The Oregon building will be the first Isaiah 117 House in Ohio, and it will change the way foster care begins at LCCS. Instead of coming to antiseptic administrative offices, children who must leave their family homes will go to the house, where they will be welcomed by trained and background-checked volunteers who will help them do anything they want– bake cookies, play dinosaurs, or just relax. The children also will receive a new duffel bag or suitcase full of 3-5 days’ worth of clothing, toys, comfort items, and more. Isaiah 117 House has a special “giving room” full of items donated by the community.
Isaiah House will receive deliveries of donated furniture over the holidays, while training more volunteers and staff this winter. The anticipated opening date to accept children will occur sometime early in 2026. The nonprofit organization is still seeking more volunteers and donations leading up to its opening.
