How to Identify and Report Child Abuse & Neglect

Every child deserves to grow up in a safe and loving environment.
Unfortunately, some children in our community face abuse or neglect.
If you ever suspect that a child is being harmed,
you have the power—and responsibility—to speak up.

You don’t need to have proof.
You only need reasonable suspicion.
Your call could save a child’s life.

How to Report Suspected Child Abuse or Neglect

If you believe a child is being abused or neglected, take immediate action:

Call the 24-Hour Child Abuse & Neglect Hotline: 419-213-CARE (2273)

Who Are Mandated Reporters?

In Ohio, certain professionals are mandated by law to report suspected child abuse or neglect. These include:

  • Teachers & school staff
  • Healthcare workers
  • Childcare providers
  • Law enforcement
  • Social workers
  • Clergy

If you are a mandated reporter, you must:

  • Report suspicions immediately
  • Share all known information (names, dates, what you observed or were told)
  • Cooperate with Lucas County Children Services (LCCS) during any follow-up

Mandated reporters can also call 419-213-CARE (2273) for support or questions.
