Lucas County Children Services works with families, service providers and community members to assess risk and coordinate community-based services resulting in safe, stable and permanent families for children.
The Family First Prevention Services Act
The Family First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA) is a landmark child welfare law that supports the position that children do best in families. It seeks to prioritize family-based care that is safe, stable, and secure.
FFPSA reforms federal financial support for child protection to prioritize family-based care over residential care. It will strengthen families, help prevent child abuse and neglect, and keep children from coming into care. It provides community-based, supportive services to families in the home so that children can safely remain, or reunify, with their parents. It embraces a public health approach that strengthens families and proactively supports those at risk of abuse, neglect, and separation. If used effectively, FFPSA will help move child welfare to a more preventative system that works to strengthen families and reduce unnecessary family disruption.
