“Adopt-a-Senior” to Replace IL Graduation

Most high school graduates are missing out on the usual pomp and circumstance this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The situation forced Independent Living supervisor Amy Cox put on her creativity cap to honor graduates who would have otherwise been celebrated here at LCCS.

Instead, the five Independent Living and two Post-Emancipation graduates will participate in a “senior parade” on June 11 at 11:30 a.m. Seniors will be driven around the LCCS block to the cheers of agency staff, court representatives, and other supporters, who will be “socially distanced” along the sidewalks. Sign-making will be encouraged. We are also planning an (encrypted) online senior showcase slide show.

With the help of Friends of LCCS, outside donors, and LCCS staff, we are planning to assemble “Adopt-A-Senior” gift baskets. If a unit/units would like to adopt a senior and put together a personalized gift basket tailored to their future, there will be details available on each individual graduate.

If you’d like to help, please call or email Amy Cox by May 7. Basket items should be dropped off no later than May 27. Suggested items include:

  • School items: USB drives, school supplies, book bags, etc.
  • Household items: Dishes, silverware/utensils, microwave, cookware, towels, etc.
  • Gift cards: For clothing, shoes, household items, etc.
